Poza podstawowym wzorem (zdanie twierdzące + końcówka przecząca) niektóre zdania mają specjalne końcówki pytające. Rozkazy, „Let’s”, „there is/are”, „I am” i zdania ze słowami przeczącymi jak never, nobody, hardly mają własne zasady.
Budowa
| Schemat | Przykład |
|---|---|
| there is/are → there | There isn't any milk, is there? |
| Let's … → shall we? | Let's go, shall we? |
| imperative → will / won't you | Open the window, will you? |
| I am → aren't I | I'm late, aren't I? |
| nobody / everyone → they | Nobody called, did they? |
Kiedy tego używamy
- Po rozkazach: Sit down, will you? (Usiądź, dobrze?) Don't forget, will you?
- Po „Let’s”: Let's eat, shall we? (Zjedzmy coś, dobrze?)
- Po „there”: There are too many, aren't there?
- Słowa przeczące liczą się jako przeczenie, więc końcówka jest twierdząca: She never smiles, does she? Nobody knows, do they?
- Zaimki nieokreślone biorą „they”: Everyone came, didn't they?
Przykłady
- There is a problem, isn't there?
Jest problem, prawda? - Let's have a break, shall we?
Zróbmy przerwę, dobrze? - Close the door, will you?
Zamknij drzwi, dobrze? - I'm right, aren't I?
Mam rację, prawda? - Nobody was there, were they?
Nikogo tam nie było, prawda? - She never calls, does she?
Ona nigdy nie dzwoni, prawda?
Typowe błędy
- I am late, amn't I? → aren't I?
- Let's go, don't we? → shall we?
- She never calls, doesn't she? → does she?
- There is a bus, isn't it? → isn't there?
