When to use the Future Perfect Continuous

  • Duration up to a future moment: By June I will have been teaching for 15 years.
  • The cause of a future situation: He will be tired because he will have been driving all night.

Signal words

These words often show that the Future Perfect Continuous is needed: by, by then, for, by the time, next month, in two years.

Examples

  • By noon she will have been studying for six hours.
  • How long will you have been working by then?

Common mistakes

  • Using it for a completed result: I will have written the report (result), not I will have been writing the report unless duration matters.
